Introduction
Dharana (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) is a Chrome browser extension designed to help users maintain healthy work habits through timed focus sessions and guided stretching exercises. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Data Collection and Usage
What We Collect
Dharana operates entirely locally on your device. We collect and store the following information:
- User Preferences: Timer settings (focus duration, break duration, stretch duration, stretch hold duration)
- Category Preferences: Which stretch categories you have enabled or disabled
- Usage Statistics: Number of focus sessions completed, number of stretches performed, total time spent stretching, and the date you first installed the extension
- Session State: Current timer status and mode (focus/stretch/break)
What We DON’T Collect
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Browsing history or activity
- Website content or URLs
- Any data from other tabs or applications
- IP addresses or device identifiers
- Analytics or usage tracking
How Data is Stored
All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome’s storage API. No data is ever transmitted to external servers, cloud services, or third parties. Your data never leaves your computer.
How Data is Used
Your data is used solely to:
- Remember your timer preferences between sessions
- Display your progress statistics
- Maintain timer state when the extension is running
- Provide a personalized experience based on your stretch category selections
Third-Party Services
Dharana loads the “Open Sans” font family from Google Fonts CDN (fonts.googleapis.com) to ensure consistent typography. This is the only external resource loaded. Google’s privacy policy applies to their font service: https://policies.google.com/privacy
No other third-party services, analytics tools, or external scripts are used.
External Links
The extension contains optional links to external platforms:
- Support Link (Buy Me a Coffee): Available in the settings page for users who wish to support development
- Feedback Form: Links to a Google Form for collecting user feedback
These are external websites that open in new browser tabs and have their own privacy policies. Clicking these links is entirely optional and does not share any of your Dharana data with these platforms.
Permissions
Dharana requires the following Chrome permissions:
- Storage: To save your preferences and statistics locally
- Alarms: To run timers in the background and trigger break reminders
- Notifications: To alert you when it’s time to take a break or stretch
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any information with third parties. Since no data leaves your device, there is nothing to share.
Data Security
Your data is as secure as your Chrome browser profile. We recommend:
- Keeping your Chrome browser updated
